Sam Pobst is the founder of Eco Metrics LLC, a green building
consulting firm established in 2005 to serve the growing demand
for sustainable building design and construction.  Eco Metrics is a
national coalition of green building consultants with expertise in
diverse areas of green building specialties, collaborating to
develop tools and expertise to advance our organization.  

Sam has a degree in Construction Management from Michigan
State University, has over 35 years of experience in the
commercial construction industry, and is a licensed contractor in
the State of Michigan.   

He was a founding member of the US Green Building Council
West Michigan Chapter, serving two terms as Chair, is Past Chair
of the USGBC Heartland Regional Council, and is a former
member of the USGBC Chapter Steering Committee.  

He is a LEED® Accredited Professional with specialties in O+M,
BD+C, and ID+C, a member of the USGBC LEED Faculty™, a
Certified Professional Constructor (CPC), a certified Green
Advantage (GA) Trainer, and a certified Dynamic Governance
(DG) facilitator.

Sam has consulted on over 20 LEED projects, and brings a
practical perspective to the economics of green building as a
businessman with a construction and development

Paul Brown LEED AP

Paul has been a licensed builder since 1999, with a focus on
sustainable remodeling. He has performed several total house
renovations, fusing older homes with modern design and
sustainable materials as well as retail and office design and
construction projects.

Prior to his building career, Paul spent almost 10 years planning
and implementing municipal recycling programs for the cities of
San Jose and Oakland, CA. In this capacity, he was involved in
diverse activities such as developing and implementing a debris
recycling  program after the 1989 Oakland/Berkeley fire which
destroyed 3,000 + homes,  developing a loan program for
recycling infrastructure, and implementing some of the early
funding initiatives for green building.

Paul received a BA and MA in economics from the University of
Colorado and wrote his Master’s Thesis on the informational
efficiency of recycling markets. He is a member of USGBC West
Michigan Chapter, the West Michigan Environmental Action
Council, is a past member of the Kent County Solid Waste
Planning Advisory Committee, and the Michigan Recycling
Coalition’s Market Development Committee.

Paul may sort through your trash, but on any given windy day
you will find him at the shore unfurling a sail or two.  


Peter Doo, AIA, LEED AP

Peter is a commissioner on the Baltimore City Sustainability
Commission and a member of the State of Maryland Green
Building Council.  He is credited with founding the Maryland
Chapter of USGBC headquartered in Baltimore and served as its
first president. He is Past-Chair of the North East Corridor Regional
Council of the US Green Building Council and served on the
USGBC National Chapter Steering Committee at that time. Peter
co-chaired the Baltimore City Green Building Taskforce, and is a
past president of the Baltimore Chapter of the American Institute
of Architects.

As an architect, Peter has designed LEED certified, LEED
registered, and net-zero energy projects. He brings this
experience to assist design teams in developing creative, project
specific and appropriate strategies for sustainability. He assists
clients in crafting policy and implementation plans for achieving
sustainability goals and assists project teams in the LEED
certification process for their green buildings under all of the LEED
rating systems.

Peter’s passions are gardening and golf, sometimes
simultaneously.


Lorraine Doo, LEED AP, MSW, MPH

Lorraine specializes in the public health impacts of the built
environment, providing education and guidance to health care
facilities managers interested in developing and implementing
environmental management and sustainability programs.

Lorraine Chair’s the Health Care Committee for the USGBC
Maryland Chapter, is an ambassador for the Baltimore City
Sustainability Commission, and makes presentations to
community organizations on the Commission’s behalf.  She is a
member of International Facilities Management Association
(IFMA) and the Federal government’s Integrated Sustainability
Work Group.

Lorraine is very fond of her garden in spring and summer, of
canning the fruits of her labor in the fall, and making art
whenever she can.


Lance Tarbell, RA, LEED AP

Lance is a LEED project manager at Doo Consulting, LLC. Lance’s
experience includes project team coordination and project
management for multiple project types and LEED rating systems,
including New Construction and Major Renovations, Core &
Shell, and Commercial Interiors. His work focuses on LEED
documentation, coordination, and review.

Lance holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech. Prior to
joining Doo Consulting, His previous experience spanned design
and construction administration services including project team
coordination, on site observation for conformance with contract
documents, and submittal review for Marks, Thomas Architects.
Lance is a member of AIA Baltimore where he serves as Chair of
the Committee in the Environment and member of USGBC
Maryland Chapter where he serves on the Events Committee. He
also enjoys sharing outdoor adventures with his son as an
Assistant Den Leader for Cub Scouts.


James Dirkes, PE, LEED AP, CxA

Jim began commissioning buildings in the 1980’s as a Senior
Engineer of Facility Planning for the University of Michigan.  His
department commissioned over 20 buildings, saving millions for
the University operating fund.  He moved to the private sector in
the 1990s, as the technical director for a highly respected
regional HVAC equipment manufacturer, becoming VP of Sales
and then VP of R&D.  

Jim has authored and developed numerous technical articles.  
He has been a member of an ANSI Technical Advisory Group,
and Chairman of the GAMA Direct-fired Heating Division.  He
holds a patent for an HVAC control concept for direct-fired
heating equipment, and is an internationally recognized
authority on the performance of direct-fired heating equipment
and industrial HVAC.

Jim has been known to use his 2nd degree black belt in Tae
Kwon Do to persuade obstinate equipment to perform to
expectations.  To our knowledge, he has never used this
technique on a contractor, but he does teach at the local
YMCA.


Renae Hesselink, LEED AP

Renae has worked with numerous clients in the health care,
commercial office space, K-12, higher education, lodging, and
manufacturing industries around Michigan to develop and
implement Green Cleaning Programs to meet LEED
requirements.   She is affiliated with many sustainability
organizations in Michigan including: Grand Rapids Community
Sustainable Partnership, Muskegon Area Sustainability Coalition,
West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum, Northwest
Sustainable Business Forum, and is a founding member of the
Southwest Michigan Sustainable Business Forum.  

Renae is a founding member of the U.S. Green Building Council
West Michigan Chapter, is current Chapter Chair, and current
Chair of the Green School Advocacy Circle.  She is on the
advisory board for MiBiz’s Triple Bottom Line news section.  She
has worked for many years with The Ashkin Group, leaders of the
Green Cleaning movement and Steve Ashkin author of the
Green Cleaning standards for LEED EB O+M.  

Renae is the internal project manager for Nichols’ pursuit of LEED
EB O+M for their home office.  Nichols submitted the project with
an expectation of receiving certification at a Gold level in 2010.

Paulette is accredited by the U.S. Green Building Council as a
LEED Accredited Professional and by the NCIDQ (National
Council for Interior Design Qualification.  She is currently active
with the SE Michigan Sustainable Business Forum, Troy Chamber
of Commerce, SE Michigan Chapter of International Facility
Management Association (IFMA) and Novi Toastmasters.  She
received her Bachelor of Science in Interior Architecture from
Lawrence Technological University.  During her 28 year career,
she has held several roles as an Interior Architectural Designer
and Project Manager with several Detroit area A&E firms, as well
as an Project Manager in Facilities Management departments
with General Motors, ArvinMeritor, Amerisure Companies and
Unisys Corporation.

Paulette is active with the Detroit Regional Chapter of U.S. Green
Building Council (omit BOD).  She co-chaired the Greening the
Heartland 2009 regional conference in Detroit and served as a
Chapter Representative to the USGBC Heartland Regional
Council. Paulette served on the chapter’s Real Estate, Education
and Public Policy Committees and participated in grant-writing
outreach activities and the LEED Regionalization task force. She
delivers LEED and sustainable practices presentations to various
municipal groups, industry professionals and students.

Korinne recently joined the Eco Metrics Coalition to pursue her
longstanding interest in improving the built environment.   She
was drawn to the Eco Metrics guiding principle of restorative
design, construction, and operating standards as a fundamental
working theory for her practice, and she embraces the
intellectual challenge of leading the building movement.  

She has a BS degree from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in
Architectural Studies.  She is a LEED Accredited Professional and a
Construction Document Technologist (CDT).  Korinne has a
background in healthcare design and understands the benefits
a healthy environment can provide.  She is an instructor for the
nationally recognized Building Operators Certification Program
and is part-time faculty at the Milwaukee Area Technical College.


Korinne is on the Riveredge Nature Center Board of Directors, is
Secretary on the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance Board of
Directors, and is the Education Chair for the US Green Building
Council’s Heartland Regional Council. As a representative on the
USGBC Heartland Regional Council, she contributed to the
LEEDv3 2009 Regional Priority Credits for Wisconsin.  

Korinne is a sucker for puppies and volunteers way too much
time at the local animal shelter.  She is also an expert at Wii Bass
Pro Fishing.

Barbara Luna is the Marketing and Sustainability Director for FBG
Service Corporation.  FBG is a janitorial and facility management
company with seven branch offices that provide green
cleaning, and from their corporate offices in Omaha, provide
facility management services nationwide.  She is serving her
fourth year on the board of the USGGBC Nebraska's Flatwater
Chapter and serving her fourth year as their USGBC Regional
Representative.

Barbara also serves on the board of the International Facility
Management Association (IFMA) Utilities Council as the VP of
Programs and Education.  FBG provides facility services to many
utility companies and works with them on sustainability programs
and training.


John Stivers, PE, LEED AP

John is civil engineer by training and spent his early career
working in construction.  He served as Director of Facilities
Management for 20 years for Herman Miller before leaving to find
his own way.  He served on the Board of the West Michigan
Gilda’s Club while it was in the development stages.  He serves
on the Board of Degage, a local soup kitchen.  

John was a principal developer of the LEED for Commercial
Interiors Reference Guide, served as Treasurer of the founding
board of the USGBC West Michigan Chapter, and co-developed
a LEED AP Exam prep class teaching providing training to over
700 students in the Great Lakes Region.  He performs LEED reviews
with Catalyst Partners, and has a number of LEED projects to his
credit.  

John can reduce the most complex problems to the most
elemental levels.  He has developed a number of LEED tools to
clarify the intent of the language.  We consider him a treasure,
even if he is a curmudgeon…


Adele Houghton, LEED AP, AIA

Adele served as Project Manager and Pilot Project Coordinator of
the Green Guide for Health Care from 2005 to 2008. Recognized
as a leader in a health-based approach to sustainability,
particularly in the healthcare industry, Adele lectures widely
across the country on behalf of Adele Houghton Consulting, LLC
and as a LEED Faculty™ member. Key publications include
Journal of Environmental Health, HERD (Health Environments
Research & Design) Journal, Healthcare Design Magazine,
Facility Care, and eco-structure.

Adele continues to build her credentials in environmental health
through participation in the National Environmental Public
Health Leadership Institute through the U.S. Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, first as a fellow in the 2008-2009 cycle
and continuing in the 2009-2010 cycle as a Mentor.

Adele is a licensed Architect in the State of Texas; a member of
the American Institute of Architects (AIA); a member of the Austin,
TX, Chapter of the AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE);
and, a member of the Balcones Chapter of the U.S. Green
Building Council. Adele Houghton Consulting, LLC is a member of
